Growth is not the same as fixing
Personal growth work starts from a different question than symptom relief. Instead of "how do I stop feeling this?", it asks "what is this telling me, and what do I want to do with it?"
What the work looks like
- Tracing where your standards and assumptions came from
- Understanding the role you tend to take in groups and relationships
- Separating what you actually want from what you were taught to want
- Practising choices that fit the person you are becoming
Why a professional helps
Self-reflection alone tends to circle. A trained listener interrupts the loop, asks the question you have been avoiding, and holds the thread across sessions so progress compounds rather than resets.
Starting the conversation
If you are curious rather than in distress, say so when you book. Therapists work differently with growth-oriented goals than with acute difficulty, and being clear about what you want shapes a better fit.
